Just over two hours from Ottawa, Columbus is the state capital of Ohio. The Columbus food scene offers a wide variety of cuisines, atmospheres, and menu items. The city is home to many notable restaurants, with more opening every year. If you are wondering where you should go to eat this weekend, here are a few restaurants you should try before you leave Columbus.

1. The Guild House

The Guild House is an artisan restaurant featuring American cuisine. The menu features locally sourced and grown ingredients and seasonal dishes that rotate to make the most of what’s available. Choose from pasta dishes such as ricotta gnocchi, with fava beans, roasted baby carrots, and forest mushrooms or cavatelli with duck confit, with heirloom tomato, watercress, and asiago. The entrees include filet with creamed spinach, baby carrots, potato gratin, and natural reduction; pacifico striped bass with mole pasilla, tomatillos, shrimp ceviche, and ground cherries; and scallops made with English peas, baby carrots, parsnip puree, and orange vinegarette.

2. Lupo on Arlington

Head to Lupo for seasonally inspired small plates and pasta dishes, with a Spanish-influenced menu featuring seafood and roasted meats. Every meal is paired with something from their carefully curated wine and cocktail list, and the chef makes every dish with high-quality ingredients sourced directly from Ohio and around the world. You can choose from Arroz con Pollo, a Piri Piro spiced half-chicken with cilantro garlic rice made with peppers, carrots, asparagus, onions, and chorizo in a butter pan sauce. The pappardelle primavera is delicious too. It’s a housemade pasta in black pepper truffle Parmigiano sauce topped with sauteed ramps, charred mushrooms, sugar snap peas, and bell peppers.

3. Skillet

Skillet is a must-try breakfast place in Columbus. The kitchen serves up farm-to-table breakfast items in a hip but laid-back atmosphere. Stop by for unique items such as a breakfast sandwich made with roast pork, kimchi, and baby bok choy. The kitchen makes all the food to order, and you should not leave Columbus without trying their stuffed French toast, made with multigrain French bread bathed in buttermilk custard and then stuffed with honey whipped Laurel Valley Cloverton Cream. It’s all served with locally grown strawberries and Ohio-made maple syrup.

4. Basi Italia

Basi Italia is a small, casual Italian restaurant serving simple dishes with innovative twists. Stop by and order your favorite Italian fares, such as spaghetti and meatballs or short ribs, which come with espresso barbecue and sweet corn mash. The grilled chicken scaloppine is always a good choice for dinner. It comes with spaghetti pesto, heirloom tomatoes, salsa fresca, and balsamic. If you enjoy seafood, the shrimp pomodoro has white wine, lemon, heirloom tomato, and cucumber.

Make sure to save room for dessert when you go to Basi Italia. You can choose from tiramisu, strawberry rhubarb crostata, dark chocolate truffles with hazelnut and dark chocolate, or vanilla creme cannoli.
