Your AC Is Only Cold When You Accelerate

The compressor controls your AC system. It’s responsible for converting liquid refrigerant back into gas to chill the air from the AC. The compressor in your Chevy works on the same principle as the one in your refrigerator at home. The compressor works continually when the AC is on, and parts can wear out or suffer damage.

Air flows into the AC system through a vent underneath your windshield. When you accelerate, the airflow through the vent speeds up too. The faster air movement into the AC system will force a worn compressor to work faster. Our technicians will examine your compressor and repair it if possible. If the compressor is too damaged, we can install a new one for you.

No Air From the AC

When you turn on the AC, you expect an immediate flow of cold air. If there’s no movement of air from the vents, there could be a blockage in the ducts or the AC itself may be damaged. As we’ve seen, air flows in through the vent underneath the windshield. This vent can become blocked with leaves or other debris, preventing air from entering the AC system.

Another possible cause of the problem is a damaged blower motor. The blower motor is responsible for pushing the cold air into the cabin. If the motor wears out or the motor’s fuse blows, no air will enter the cabin. Our technicians will need to check your AC system to find the cause of the problem. A fuse is quick and easy to replace. If the motor is damaged, we may be able to fix it. We can also replace a damaged motor for you.

Water in the Cabin

Water on the passenger side carpet can only come from a leak, and the likely culprit is a blocked drain hose. Your AC removes humidity from the air, and this produces water. The water is collected and drained out of your car through the drain hose. This rubber hose exits your car in front of the passenger front seat. In time, this hose can become blocked due to dirt, debris, or even mold.

A blocked drain hose will force the water to find another exit. The water will build up in the evaporator heater tank and overflow onto the passenger front carpet. We can unblock or replace the pipe to fix this problem.
